Bas moved from The Netherlands to Idaho in the summer of 2005. He earned his Biomimicry Specialist certificate in 2013. In 2014 he started the Idaho chapter of the Biomimicry Network.
Since 2006 he has been a member of the venture capital group Boise Angel Alliance that invests in local start-up businesses. Bas is locally active as vice president in the board of the Sage School, is a mentor at the local business incubator and helps organize a local music festival. Bas holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delft. After his studies he worked for DHL, Brussels and worked for coffee roasters in Munich, Germany and Portland, Oregon. In The Netherlands he was co-CEO of Bravilor Bonamat, his international, family-owned manufacturing business for professional coffee brewing equipment.
He is very passionated about nature and sustainability and as such was affiliated with MBDC, known for their Cradle to Cradle design philosophy. For fun he spends as much time as possible in the great Idahoan outdoors, either on foot, on his mountain bike, or on skis.
